Dave Bautista may be stepping into the rough-and-tumble world of Road House. According to multiple sources, and reported by Variety the Guardians of the Galaxy actor has been offered a role in Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming sequel, Road House 2.
No official confirmation has come from Bautista’s representatives or the studio, and talks have reportedly not yet begun. But if it goes through, Bautista would join returning lead Jake Gyllenhaal, who reprises his role as ex-UFC fighter Dalton. This time around, The Gentlemen director Guy Ritchie is set to helm the follow-up, replacing Doug Liman, who directed the 2024 reboot.
The first installment, a reimagining of the 1989 Patrick Swayze cult classic, followed Dalton as he took on the job of head bouncer at a lawless bar in the Florida Keys. What started as bar fights quickly escalated into a full-on turf war, complete with outlaw bikers, a greedy developer, and a brutal showdown with Conor McGregor, making his acting debut as the films antagonist.
While it bypassed theaters, Road House premiered on Prime Video and proved to be a massive streaming success. Jennifer Salke, then head of Amazon MGM Studios, stated the film “broke records” and drew “nearly 80 million worldwide viewers in its first eight weeks,” calling it the studio’s “most-watched produced film debut ever on a worldwide basis.”
Will Beall, whose recent credits include Bad Boys: Ride or Die and Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, is penning the screenplay for the sequel. Production is being overseen by Charles Roven and Alex Gartner of Atlas Entertainment, with Gyllenhaal also producing via his Nine Stories banner. Josh McLaughlin and Ivan Atkinson are serving as executive producers.
Meanwhile, Bautista’s schedule is stacked. He’s currently filming Alpha Gang alongside Cate Blanchett under the direction of the Zellner brothers. Up next, he’ll appear in The Trap House and the Amazon MGM Studios buddy comedy Wrecking Crew, which pairs him with Jason Momoa.
