The Bosch Universe Expands with All Episodes of ‘Ballard’ Starring Maggie Q Now Streaming

Amazon Prime Video has officially dropped all 10 episodes of Ballard, the latest crime drama set in Michael Connelly’s Bosch universe. The series, available for streaming as of today July 9, 2025, shifts the narrative spotlight from veteran detective Harry Bosch to LAPD detective Renée Ballard, played by Maggie Q.

Unlike its immediate predecessor Bosch: Legacy, which adopted a weekly release strategy after an initial episode batch, Ballard embraces the all-at-once drop that defined the original Bosch series. Fans can binge the entire season without waiting week-to-week. The change aligns with Prime Video’s move to refresh the franchise’s pacing while honoring its roots.

Created by Michael Connelly and Michael Alaimo, Ballard draws from several of Connelly’s novels, including Desert Star, The Late Show, and The Dark Hours. The plot follows Ballard as she takes over a newly formed cold case unit within the LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division. After years of being sidelined by a toxic department culture, Ballard accepts the role to rebuild her career and the department’s credibility.

The cold case squad is a patchwork of misfits and second-chancers. John Carroll Lynch plays retired detective Thomas Laffont, who returns to help get the unit off the ground. Courtney Taylor joins as ex-officer Samira Parker, while Victoria Moroles and Rebecca Field round out the team as a legal intern and enthusiastic volunteer, respectively. Michael Mosley plays Ted Rawls, a figure tasked with monitoring the unit’s progress. And Titus Welliver reprises his iconic role as Harry Bosch for at least one appearance in the series.

Superiors at the LAPD, like Captain Berchem (Hector Hugo) and political overseer Nelson Hastings (Alain Uy), bring additional pressure as Ballard balances department politics with unresolved crimes. The main investigation centers on the murder of a city councilman’s sister, an unsolved case that reopens deeper corruption within the ranks.

Personal relationships further color Ballard’s world. Amy Hill appears as her grandmother, Tutu, while Ricardo Chavira plays Robert Olivas, a detective with ties to Ballard’s past that threaten to complicate her present.

With Ballard, Prime Video continues to expand its flagship detective universe, keeping Connelly’s complex characters and gritty storytelling front and center and this time, on the west side of Los Angeles.
