With Mortal Kombat II set to hit theaters this October, Warner Bros. is warming up fans with a deliciously over-the-top teaser, not for the film itself, but for a fake action flick called Uncaged Fury. It’s a ludicrous ‘90s-style movie within a movie, starring Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, and it’s every bit as ridiculous as it sounds.
“They should’ve brought more guys…” growls the trailer’s gravel-voiced narrator. That’s about as subtle as this thing gets. Uncaged Fury is a cheeky, in-universe relic straight out of Cage’s fictional filmography, and it leans all the way into its retro absurdity. Think slow-motion kicks, gravelly one-liners, and explosions that defy the laws of physics.

The fake trailer was released as part of a larger viral marketing stunt. Warner Bros. sent out DVD copies of Uncaged Fury, complete with ‘90s-style cover art and a pair of Johnny’s signature shades. The idea? Build the mythology of Cage not just as a fighter, but as a bona fide Hollywood legend, well at least, within the Mortal Kombat world.
Among the faux titles in Cage’s cinematic back catalog: Cool Hand Cage, Hard to Cage, and Rebel Without a Cage, all proudly stamped with the New Line Cinema logo. “They fucked with his shades,” the voiceover warns. “They should have brought more guys.” This is not a drill.

One highlight: Cage goes full superhero, dodging a rocket-propelled missile in a warehouse showdown, only for the projectile to swerve mid-air and obliterate a helicopter. It’s nonsense. It’s glorious. It’s exactly what fans expected.
The real Mortal Kombat II, directed again by Simon McQuoid and written by Jeremy Slater, follows up the 2021 reboot and promises more Outworld action. But for now, Uncaged Fury is stealing the show, even if it doesn’t actually exist.
Uncaged Fury may be fake, but the hype is real. Mortal Kombat II hits theaters October 24, 2025.
