Austin Butler Leads a Wild Lineup in New ‘Caught Stealing’ Poster Art

Sony drops new character posters for Darren Aronofsky’s ‘Caught Stealing’

Sony Pictures has released a fresh set of character posters for Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing, the upcoming crime thriller led by Austin Butler. The eight new visuals feature each cast member posed against bold, graffiti-style backdrops that channel the gritty energy of late’90s New York, where the film is set. With pops of neon, and stylized tagging, the posters lean fully into the film’s retro chaos, with the lineup even including Tonic the cat!

Butler stars as Hank Thompson, a once-promising baseball player whose career fizzled. He’s now tending bar in a city that doesn’t sleep, and he’s doing his best to stay invisible. That changes quickly when a seemingly harmless favor—watching a neighbor’s cat—turns into a nightmare. What follows is a plunge into New York’s criminal underworld, packed with gangsters, paranoia, and no clear way out.

Each poster teases the tone of its character. Zoë Kravitz, Bad Bunny, Regina King, and Matt Smith (playing a punk-rock neighbor named Russ) all appear with striking designs. The rest of the ensemble includes Vincent D’Onofrio, Liev Schreiber, and Carol Kane rounding out the cast.

The full official synopsis reads: “Hank Thompson was a high-school baseball phenom who can’t play anymore, but everything else is going okay. He’s got a great girl, tends bar at a New York dive, and his favorite team is making an underdog run at the pennant. When his punk-rock neighbor Russ asks him to take care of his cat for a few days, Hank suddenly finds himself caught in the middle of a motley crew of threatening gangsters. They all want a piece of him; the problem is he has no idea why. As Hank attempts to evade their ever-tightening grip, he’s got to use all his hustle to stay alive long enough to find out…”

Aronofsky directs the adaptation, which is based on Charlie Huston’s novel. Huston also penned the screenplay, maintaining the gritty edge and dark humor of the original story. Matthew Libatique, Aronofsky’s longtime cinematographer, shot the film on location in New York.

The director described the project as a personal one. Speaking at CinemaCon, Aronofsky said it was “a true love letter to the greatest city in the world.” Caught Stealing is also the first installment in a planned trilogy, with Six Bad Things and A Dangerous Man expected to follow if the film connects with audiences.

The movie opens in theaters on August 29, 2025. With an A-list cast, frantic pace, and a distinct visual identity, this is shaping up to be one of the year’s boldest genre offerings. You can check out the trailer and the remaining posters below.
