Apple TV+ has released a teaser for Mr. Scorsese, a five-part documentary from director Rebecca Miller, offering an expansive look at the life and career of Martin Scorsese. The project traces the Oscar winner’s journey from his earliest student films at NYU to his place as one of the most influential filmmakers in cinema history.
The newly released clip highlights a rarely told story from the making of 1976’s Taxi Driver. In the footage, Scorsese recalls the battle to protect his final cut of the now-classic thriller, which was on the verge of being heavily altered. “They’re going to destroy the film anyway, you know. So let me destroy it. I’ll destroy it. But before destroying it, I’m going to steal it,” he says in the teaser, a glimpse into the determination that would define much of his career.

According to Apple, the series examines how Scorsese’s lived experiences shaped the themes and style of his films, from his meditations on morality to explorations of the human capacity for both good and evil. Viewers can expect a deep dive into the creative process behind works that consistently challenged the boundaries of mainstream filmmaking.
The production features unprecedented access to Scorsese’s personal archives and fresh interviews with an array of collaborators, friends, and family. The roster includes Steven Spielberg, Robert De Niro, Daniel Day-Lewis, Leonardo DiCaprio, Mick Jagger, Robbie Robertson, Thelma Schoonmaker, Sharon Stone, Jodie Foster, Paul Schrader, Margot Robbie, Cate Blanchett, Jay Cocks, and Rodrigo Prieto, a lineup that mirrors the breadth of Scorsese’s impact across the industry.

“This project is a filmmaker’s dream, to have had such access to legends of the industry, from Marty himself to his prolific collaborators, close friends and family members,” Miller said in a statement. She added that the teaser offers “the true version of a mythic (a never-before-told) story about Taxi Driver,” and how Scorsese’s persistence ensured the film’s lasting cultural legacy.
Mr. Scorsese will debut globally on Apple TV+ on October 17. With its mix of candid recollections, rare archival footage, and personal insight, the series aims to serve not just as a portrait of a singular artist, but also as a broader reflection on creativity, resilience, and the cost of protecting one’s vision.
