The first full trailer for HBO’s upcoming crime drama Task is here, offering a dark and gripping look at the tense showdown between two complex men in a quiet Philadelphia suburb.
Mark Ruffalo leads the cast as an FBI agent who’s assembled a mismatched task force to stop a wave of violent robberies tearing through working-class neighborhoods. His target? Tom Pelphrey’s character—a seemingly ordinary family man hiding secrets far darker than anyone suspects.

Set against the gritty backdrop of suburban Philadelphia, the trailer immediately sets a grim tone, underscored by Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here” This isn’t your run-of-the-mill crime story. Task digs deep into moral ambiguity, the weight of choices, and the unraveling of lives pushed to their limits.
Brad Ingelsby brings the same intense energy he brought to Mare of Easttown, though this time with the added pressure of a federal badges and a less forgiving world.

Created and written by Mare of Easttown’s Ingelsby, Task continues to explore the fraught dynamics of working-class communities and the slow burn of escalating violence. The show’s supporting cast, Emilia Jones, Jamie McShane, Thuso Mbedu, and Martha Plimpton add further depth to the tension-fueled story.
Directed by Jeremiah Zagar and Salli Richardson-Whitfield, with Ruffalo also serving as an executive producer, Task is shaping up to be a compelling addition to HBO’s roster of character-driven crime dramas.
The series is set to premiere Sunday September 7, with episodes dropping weekly on HBO in the US and Sky TV in UK. The trailer hints at a slow, intense collision course between two men—and neither will come out unscathed, check out the trailer below.
