20th Century Studios has released a new IMAX trailer for the latest installment in their ‘Planet of the Apes’ series. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, will usher in a new era, set several generations after the reign of Caesar.
In this new world, apes have emerged as the dominant species under the rule of a tyrannical king, while humans are relegated to scavenging what little remains, all the while being hunted by their ape overlords.
And that is exactly what this new trailer depicts as we see Freya Allan’s character being hunted by gorillas. She hides in long grass before being rescued by a common chimpanzee, Noa and together they embark on an important journey.
The official synopsis for the film reads as follows: Many years after the reign of Caesar, a young ape goes on a journey that will lead him to question everything he’s been taught about the past and make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.
The Apes movies were first brought to the screen in 1968 with the Charlton Heston-led Planet of the Apes, which was loosely based on a 1963 novel written by Pierre Boulle. The success of the original film led to the creation of a franchise that includes multiple sequels, television series, and reboots.
Alongside Allan the cast also includes Owen Teague, Kevin Durand, Peter Macon, and William H. Macy.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is directed by Wes Ball and will be in cinemas May 10.
