New ‘Jurassic World: Rebirth’ Trailer Unleashes a New Era of Prehistoric Mayhem

Universal Pictures is setting the stage for a bold new chapter in its dino-sized franchise with Jurassic World Rebirth, set to stomp into theaters on July 2. The fresh trailer doesn’t just tease more teeth and chaos—it introduces a monster unlike anything fans have seen before.

Enter the Distortus Rex, a genetically modified nightmare with six limbs and malformed features. It’s not just a predator—it’s a tragedy in motion. “We wanted something truly unsettling.” director Gareth Edwards told Empire. And the latest trailer opens to some unfortunate soul meeting his demise at its claws.

The film picks up in a world learning to coexist with dinosaurs. But peace never lasts long in this franchise. As Earth’s environments clash with the needs of bioengineered dinos, many have retreated to dense tropical zones, reminiscent of the old Isla Nublar and Sorna territories. This time, the stakes are different: dinosaurs might hold the key to curing human disease.

That’s where Scarlett Johansson’s Zora Bennett comes in. A covert ops soldier with a murky past, she’s tasked by a pharma giant to escort a scientific team onto the island to extract genetic samples. With her is Duncan Kincard (Mahershala Ali), a smuggler with his own agenda, and Henry Loomis (Jonathan Bailey), the optimistic lead researcher. Their goal? Capture samples from a land-dweller, sea creature, and flying predator. What could possibly go wrong?

Johansson’s team also collide with a civilian family whose boat was attacked by aquatic predators, stranding everyone on an island hiding a monstrous new threat. The film also stars Rupert Friend and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo.

“Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planet’s ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs,” the synopsis reads. “Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments… The three most colossal creatures within that tropical biosphere hold the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.”
