Peacock is taking its mockumentary style back to the workplace, but this time, there are no sales quotas or regional managers, just ink-stained dreams and a struggling local newspaper. The Paper, a new comedy from Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, sets its sights on the newsroom of the Truth-Teller, a once-proud publication in Toledo, Ohio, now barely holding on in a world of corporate disinterest and budget cuts.
Domhnall Gleeson steps into the role of Ned Sampson, an idealist with zero resources but grand ambitions to save the paper from obscurity. His solution? Recruit staff from the building’s maintenance crew and front desk to work as volunteer reporters. It’s desperate, chaotic and exactly the kind of fertile ground a documentary crew loves.

That crew, of course, is the same one that immortalized the madness of Dunder Mifflin in The Office. Now, they’re back behind the camera, chronicling Ned’s campaign to breathe life into a newsroom that shares office space with a company selling toilet paper and seat covers.
Sabrina Impacciatore also joins the cast, alongside Oscar Nuñez who returns as Oscar Martinez, adding a familiar face to the mix and one who’s far from thrilled to be dragged into another work documentary. “It’s happening again,” he says in the newly released trailer today, with equal parts dread and exhaustion.

Created by The Office architect Greg Daniels and Nathan for You alum Michael Koman, The Paper brings a familiar blend of deadpan humor and workplace absurdity, but trades fluorescent cubicles for ink-stained desks.
Peacock will debut The Paper on September 4 in the US and in the UK it will air a day later on Sky, with four episodes dropping at once. Two new episodes will follow each week, wrapping the 10-episode run by the end of the month. A new workplace, a new crisis, but the same signature awkward charm. You can check out the trailer below.
