A Murder Mystery in the Wild Netflix’s ‘Untamed’ is Now Streaming

‘Untamed’ drops today!

A body lies broken beneath El Capitan’s granite face in Yosemite National Park. At first glance, it looks like an accident. But this isn’t just a tragic fall, it’s the start of a deeper mystery. “She was hurt, scared,” says park ranger Naya Vasquez (Lily Santiago) in the official trailer for Untamed. “She was running from something.”

Launching globally today, Untamed is a six-part limited series created by The Revenant’s Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith (The Marsh King’s Daughter). Set against the vast and unforgiving landscape of America’s wilderness, the show follows federal agent Kyle Turner (Eric Bana), who works with the National Park Service’s elite Investigative Services Branch. When Turner is called in to investigate the woman’s death, what starts as a routine inquiry veers sharply into something darker and far more dangerous.

Bana plays Turner with a tightly coiled stillness, a man shaped by isolation and ghosts he hasn’t yet outrun. “Kyle Turner is someone who is much more comfortable in the wild […] than he is with other humans or with the modern world,” Mark L. Smith told TADUM. Elle Smith added, “He can do strength and sensitivity at the same time, which we felt was really rare.” It’s a blend that gives the series its emotional core.

The cast also features Sam Neill as Yosemite’s seasoned chief ranger Paul Souter, Rosemarie DeWitt as Turner’s ex-wife, and Wilson Bethel as a wildlife officer with a complicated history. Lily Santiago’s Vasquez, new to the job and to Turner’s world, is dropped headfirst into a case where every step deeper into the backcountry means facing unknown threats, both human and otherwise.

The stakes grow with each episode. “We have close to a million acres of wilderness,” Souter says in the trailer. Out there, the usual rules don’t apply. It’s easy to get lost and hard to be found.

Untamed takes the traditional crime procedural and rips it out of city streets, dropping it instead into remote canyons, dense forests, and harsh terrain. It’s part manhunt, part survival story, and entirely built for those who like their mysteries with altitude. The series is now available to stream on Netflix.
