Brad Pitt’s high-speed drama F1 shifts into a new gear today with its digital release, now available to rent or buy. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, the film trades dogfights for downforce, swapping the skies of Top Gun: Maverick for the unforgiving circuits of Formula 1.
Pitt takes the wheel as Sonny Hayes, a former racing prodigy whose career collapsed after a catastrophic crash in the ‘90s. Years later, Hayes finds himself recruited by old teammate-turned-team-owner Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), who needs him to keep his outfit alive. What sounds like a comeback story quickly veers into a bruising generational showdown.

That clash comes in the form of rookie Joshua Pearce, played by Damson Idris, whose raw pace threatens to eclipse Hayes’ hard-earned experience. Sparks fly both on and off the track, with Hayes firing at his young rival, “It’s alright… you’re just worried I’m quicker than you.” The rivalry anchors the film’s drama, fueling its narrative with tension, pride, and the smell of burning rubber.
Kosinski and his crew went all-in on authenticity. Cars were engineered from Formula 2 chassis with input from Mercedes engineers, then tested at actual Grand Prix events where filming took place. Real F1 stars such as Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, and Charles Leclerc also appear, cementing the movie in the world it aims to replicate.

The scale of production matches the speed of the subject. As per our review of the film, “F1 is a full-blown spectacle. Visually, the film is nothing short of spectacular.” Kosinski’s camera hugs the tarmac, capturing both the raw physicality of the drivers and the immense machinery they command.
With Apple Studios and Warner Bros. backing the release, F1 arrives on digital as a blockbuster built for the big screen but still blistering at home. Whether you’re watching for Pitt’s swagger, Idris’ intensity, or the tire-shredding realism of Kosinski’s vision, F1 makes one thing clear: in this sport, speed is never just about the car.
