Netflix has released the trailer for their upcoming fantasy film, Damsel, starring Millie Bobby Brown. She portrays Princess Elodie, who believes she is fulfilling a royal duty by consenting to wed a prince. However, there’s a sinister plot by the royal family to sacrifice her to settle an age-old debt.
The trailer shows her being thrown into a deep cave inhabited by a massive dragon. Realising escape is improbable, she takes matters into her own hands and begins plotting her escape.

The official synopsis for the film reads as follows: A dutiful damsel agrees to marry a handsome prince, only to find the royal family has recruited her as a sacrifice to repay an ancient debt. Thrown into a cave with a fire-breathing dragon, she must rely on her wits and will to survive.
Millie Bobby Brown has emphasized that she’s definitely NOT a damsel in distress, saying, “She’s a damsel who doesn’t need to be saved. She saves herself in many ways. It subverts what you expect: You’re expecting the prince to turn around and save her, and… no. Don’t wait for the prince.”

Alongside Brown the cast is made up of, Robin Wright as Queen Isabelle, Nick Robinson as Prince Henry, Angela Bassett as Elodie’s stepmother Lady Bayford and Ray Winstone as Lord Bayford.
The film is directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and written by Dan Mazeau.
Damsel will be available to stream on Netflix March 8.
