Elizabeth Olsen’s Afterlife Love Triangle Begins in A24’s ‘Eternity’

Forever starts with a choice in A24’s ‘Eternity’.

A24 has unveiled the trailer for Eternity, a romantic comedy with a supernatural twist that sees Elizabeth Olsen at the center of an impossible choice. The film will make its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival this fall before heading to theaters in November.

Directed by David Freyne, Eternity imagines an afterlife where souls get one week to decide where they’ll spend forever. Olsen plays Joan, recently deceased, who is forced to choose between two great loves: Larry (Miles Teller), her husband in life, and Luke (Callum Turner), her long-lost first love who passed away years earlier. Time might be irrelevant in the afterlife, but emotions, evidently, aren’t.

The trailer balances heartache with humor as Joan attempts to navigate the surreal logistics of death while wrestling with decades of unresolved feelings. “A lot has happened in a week,” Olsen’s character says to Teller. “You died. I died. I’ve just been reunited with both of my dead husbands, and I have to pick where to spend eternity.”

Eternity boasts a cast that mixes romantic leads with comedic talent. Oscar winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph, John Early, and Olga Merediz round out the ensemble, with Freyne directing from a script he co-wrote with Pat Cunnane. Cunnane’s screenplay earned early praise, making the 2022 Black List, a curated rundown of the best unproduced scripts circulating in Hollywood.

While Olsen is no stranger to heavier drama, Eternity signals a pivot into whimsical territory. “It’s real fun,” she told Extra. “It’s a callback to Billy Wilder films. I think it’s gonna be a special romantic comedy that we’re all really proud of.”

With its high-concept setup and emotional stakes, Eternity looks to blend classic rom-com charm with a supernatural dilemma. At its core, the film asks: what happens when the heart has unfinished business, and all of time to wrestle with it? Check out the tailer below.
