First Look: Benoit Blanc is Back ‘Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery’ Starts Filming with Daniel Craig

Daniel Craig Debuts Long Hair in ‘Knives Out 3’ First Look!

Following the sun-drenched escapades of Glass Onion, Rian Johnson’s next Knives Out mystery, Wake Up Dead Man, appears to be taking a darker turn. The director hints at this shift by releasing a moody black-and-white image of Daniel Craig as Benoit Blanc.

In the black-and-white image (below), the 56-year-old British star is seen with long hair, dressed in a three-piece suit, and holding a hat. On X (Twitter) Johnson shared the image declaring “Aaaaand we’re off! Today is day 1 of shooting on the next Benoit Blanc mystery “Wake Up Dead Man” – see you on the other side.”

Knives Out 3 has gradually revealed its star-studded cast over several weeks, featuring a stellar ensemble of top actors alongside Craig, including Glenn Close, Josh O’Connor, Kerry Washington, Cailee Spaeny, Thomas Haden Church, Andrew Scott, Mila Kunis, Josh Brolin, and Jeremy Renner. Plot details for the latest Knives Out mystery remain under wraps, but it is being touted as Benoit Blanc’s “most dangerous case to date.”

The franchise launched with Johnson’s 2019 whodunit hit Knives Out, which grossed $312 million worldwide. Netflix secured a $450 million deal with Johnson that included Glass Onion, and now Wake Up Dead Man will continue the series with the streaming giant.

Knives Out followed detective Benoit Blanc as he delved into the murder of a wealthy patriarch within a dysfunctional family. The sequel Glass Onion then took Benoit Blanc to a secluded island in Greece for what initially seemed like a harmless ‘murder mystery weekend’ hosted by a tech billionaire—until a real murder took place. This film earned a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay at the 95th Annual Academy Awards.

Wake Up Dead Man is expected to follow a similar release strategy to Glass Onion and have a limited theatrical release ahead of landing on Netflix in 2025. We will keep you updated with any further developments.
