‘Freakier Friday’ Brings Back Body-Swapping Mayhem in Cinemas Today

Four women & one curse!

After a 21-year wait, the body-swap comedy is back on the big screen and things are messier than ever. Freakier Friday, Disney’s sequel to the 2003 classic, opens in cinemas today, bringing a new generation into the madness.

Lindsay Lohan returns as Anna Coleman, now a grown woman on the verge of marriage. Her fiancé Eric (Manny Jacinto) may be charming, but their soon-to-be blended family isn’t exactly blending. Tensions between Anna’s daughter Harper (Julia Butters) and her future stepsister Lily (Sophia Hammons) are bubbling over, and the wedding week quickly spirals into dysfunction.

Just when it seems like things can’t get more complicated, a mysterious fortune teller crashes Anna’s bachelorette party. “They may learn another lesson from ‘walking in each other’s paths,’” the stranger warns, a callback to the body-swapping curse that once upended Anna’s teenage life. This time, the magic doesn’t just hit one mother-daughter pair. Anna and Harper swap bodies, while Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis) and Lily end up in each other’s shoes.

What follows is a multi-generational identity crisis laced with comedy and emotional landmines. From sabotaged brunches to unexpected reunions, the film leans into its chaotic premise with confidence. With one standout moment in the trailer sees Lily—inhabiting Tess’s body—plotting to ruin the wedding entirely: “We can break our parents up for good.” Chad Michael Murray returns as Jake, Anna’s old flame, and yes, the leather jacket is still intact.

Director Nisha Ganatra keeps the pace tight and the energy high, balancing nostalgia with fresh conflict. The cast includes familiar faces like Elaine Hendrix and Mark Harmon, while Never Have I Ever’s Maitreyi Ramakrishnan joins in a role still under wraps.

The sequel is produced by Kristin Burr and Andrew Gunn, with Lohan and Curtis also serving as executive producers. Based once again on Mary Rodgers’ beloved novel, Freakier Friday arrives with a clear message: growing up doesn’t mean outgrowing the chaos. You can watch the trailer below.
