‘Happy Gilmore 2’ Swings Onto Netflix Today as Adam Sandler Returns for Another Round

Adam Sandler tees off again!

After nearly thirty years away from the tee box, Happy Gilmore is back on the green. Happy Gilmore 2, the long-awaited sequel to Adam Sandler’s beloved 1996 comedy, is now streaming globally on Netflix as of today, July 25.

The new chapter finds Sandler reprising his role as the temperamental, hockey-stick-swinging golfer with a bad attitude and a wicked drive. This time, he’s older, a little rusty, and trying to prove he can still compete in a sport that’s evolved without him. The sequel blends the original’s slapstick energy with a few modern twists, trading in its ’90s edges for something a little more meta and a lot more crowded.

Sandler isn’t alone. Julie Bowen returns as Virginia Venit, and Christopher McDonald is once again cocky as ever as Shooter McGavin. Ben Stiller pops back in, and there’s a packed roster of cameos, from sports stars like Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas to pop culture fixtures including Travis Kelce, Kid Cudi, and even Eminem. If the first film was a cult hit, the sequel is swinging for viral.

“I haven’t swung a club in years,” Sandler says in the film’s trailer. “I’m a little intimidated. All these guys hit it big now.” The line, delivered with trademark deadpan, sets the tone for a sequel focused on both redemption and rivalry.

Behind the scenes, Happy Gilmore 2 was co-written by Sandler and longtime collaborator Tim Herlihy. Directing duties go to Kyle Newacheck, known for his work on Workaholics and Murder Mystery. It’s a change in the director’s chair, but the tone remains close to the original’s chaotic comedy roots.

The movie also includes fresh faces like Margaret Qualley, building out a generational contrast that puts Sandler’s Happy right at the heart of a changing game. But no matter how many new players show up, this course still belongs to Gilmore.
