Disney has dropped the first teaser for Zootopia 2, marking the return of its beloved animated franchise nearly a decade after the original stole hearts—and an Oscar—in 2016. Scheduled to hit theaters on November 26, the sequel sees Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde back on the beat, facing their most chaotic case yet.
Directors Jared Bush and Byron Howard are back at the helm, promising a sprawling adventure through Zootopia’s lesser-seen districts. The teaser, light on dialogue but heavy on intrigue, hints at a new antagonist: Gary De’Snake, a pit viper voiced by Ke Huy Quan. The slippery newcomer isn’t just slithering through the city—he’s shaking it to its core.

“We are beyond excited to welcome everyone back to the outrageous, expansive animal metropolis of Zootopia” said Bush, speaking to Disney’s official outlet. “Whether it’s the marshes of semi-aquatic mammals, the vast desert dunes or even greater mysteries beyond, our heroes, Judy and Nick, will meet a lot of new friends, and discover even more about the world, themselves and a brand-new snake in town.” Bush, who also wrote the script and serves as Disney Animation’s Chief Creative Officer, added that the film will test Judy and Nick’s partnership as they go undercover in unfamiliar territory.
The returning leads—Ginnifer Goodwin as Judy and Jason Bateman as Nick—are joined by newcomers Fortune Feimster and Quinta Brunson. Shakira also reprises her role as pop icon Gazelle. And in a move that only Zootopia could pull off, a techno track titled “ZUTU” by lemming DJ group LEMEEENS makes its debut in the trailer.

Produced by Encanto’s Yvett Merino, the film signals Disney’s renewed commitment to its biggest franchises on the big screen. CEO Bob Iger’s return has seen a strategic shift away from streaming exclusives, and with the original Zootopia raking in over $1 billion globally, the numbers speak volumes.
