Hulu has dropped the first trailer for Swiped, a drama starring Lily James as billionaire tech entrepreneur Whitney Wolfe Herd. Also featuring Dan Stevens, and Pierson Fodé, the film will debut on the streamer September 19.
The story draws loose inspiration from Wolfe Herd’s career, rather than sticking to a strict biography. Audiences will follow her journey from her early days at Tinder, where she was credited with key branding moves, to the turbulent exit that would change the course of her life. “I wanted to change the rules of online dating,” she says in the trailer, as the narrative charts her decision to create Bumble.

Swiped portrays Wolfe Herd navigating a male-dominated tech environment, facing both public and private challenges. The film doesn’t shy away from the high-stakes politics of Silicon Valley, showing the cultural clashes that led her to resign from Tinder in 2014, followed by a sexual harassment lawsuit against the company.
From there, the focus shifts to her founding of Bumble, a dating app designed to put women in control. By 2021, Bumble’s public listing turned Wolfe Herd into one of the youngest self-made billionaires at just 31. Though she stepped down as CEO in 2023, her creation remains a major player in the online dating space.

Director and screenwriter details remain under wraps, but the trailer hints at a mix of sharp boardroom drama and personal reckoning. The film also reunites James with her former Downton Abbey co-star Dan Stevens, adding another layer of chemistry to the ensemble.
Arriving just as buzz builds for The Social Network Part II, Swiped rides a wave of Hollywood fascination with tech-world origin stories. Both projects promise ambition, innovation—and a glimpse at the bruising realities behind the glossy success stories. You can watch the trailer below.
The world premiere of Swiped is set for September 9 at the Toronto International Film Festival, ahead of its exclusive Disney+ debut on September 19 in the UK and Hulu in the US.
