Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell Step Into the Unknown in ‘A Big Bold Beautiful Journey’

Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell are set to take audiences on an emotional voyage this fall in A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, directed by Kogonada. The film, which opens in theaters on September 19, blends sweeping romance with a magical fantasy, bringing together two of Hollywood’s most compelling stars in a story about love, memory, and the choices that shape us.

Robbie plays Sarah, a woman convinced she is “meant to be alone,” while Farrell takes on the role of David, a man still searching for the elusive feeling of having met the right person. Their paths cross at a wedding, where a chance encounter leads to a scenic drive and to a discovery that will turn their worlds upside down. In the middle of the woods, the pair stumble across a mysterious red door.

That doorway doesn’t just open into another place. It opens into the past. Sarah and David soon find themselves reliving defining chapters of their lives, from awkward school days to conversations with family that still echo years later. As they move through these personal flashpoints, the strangers begin to understand each other, and perhaps themselves, in ways they never expected.

The screenplay comes from Seth Reiss, best known for co-writing The Menu. While that project was a darkly comic thriller, Reiss takes a very different tack here, crafting a narrative that is intimate and whimsical, while still grounded in human experience. “What if you could open a doorway and walk through it to re-live a defining moment from your past?” reads the official synopsis, a question that sits at the heart of the film’s premise.

Kogonada, reuniting with Farrell after their collaboration on After Yang, once again leans into stories that blur the line between the ordinary and the extraordinary. While After Yang explored grief and memory through the lens of futuristic technology, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey turns to romance and the power of revisiting the past, promising a more whimsical but no less emotionally charged experience.

Joining Robbie and Farrell are  Lily Rabe, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Billy Magnussen, and Hamish Linklater.. Behind the camera, a seasoned production team helps bring Kogonada’s vision to life, ensuring that A Big Bold Beautiful Journey delivers on both its intimate emotional beats and its sweeping visual scope.
