Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry will play secret agents in Netflix’s upcoming action comedy, The Union Wahlberg’s character Mike is a little different to your regular James Bond.
Mike, a construction worker from New Jersey, finds his world upended when his high school sweetheart, Roxanne played by Berry, reappears. She unveils a shocking revelation: not only is she a covert operative, but she also requires his assistance for a dangerous mission.

Before long, Mike finds himself thrust into The Union, a clandestine organization composed of blue-collar espionage operatives, spearheaded by Tom Brennan, played by J.K. Simmons.
Remarkably, this is the first collaboration between Wahlberg and Berry, despite both having been in the acting industry for decades. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Wahlberg expresses his excitement about working with Berry.

“I’ve always been a huge fan of her and an admirer of her work. Doing anything with Halle is very easy but also an absolute joy. Pretty much any guy or gal would do anything to win her over, so it was certainly easy when it came to me basically following her like a puppy.”
Wahlberg, who has been involved with the film since 2020, remarks that the story took on new dimensions after Berry joined the project. “It evolved, and especially once Halle got involved, it became about a guy who would do anything to impress the love of his life absolutely anything,”

The Union is directed by Julian Farino and will premiere on Netflix on August 16.
