Netflix has dropped the full trailer for The Thursday Murder Club, the upcoming mystery-comedy based on Richard Osman’s bestselling novel of the same name. The film, which makes its debut on August 28, brings a new twist to the crime genre, this time led by retirees with far too much time and just enough experience.
Set in a quiet English village, the story follows four pensioners who meet weekly to dissect old murder cases over tea and biscuits. But when a real corpse turns up in their midst, the group swaps theory for action. Armed with intuition and life experience, they take it upon themselves to crack the case before local authorities do.

Helen Mirren plays Elizabeth Best, a retired intelligence agent with a no-nonsense streak. She’s joined by Pierce Brosnan as former union boss Ron, Celia Imrie as nurse-turned-sleuth Joyce, and Ben Kingsley as ex-GP Ibrahim. The cast is a who’s who of British cinema and they’re clearly having a ball with the material.
The trailer showcases a blend of cozy atmosphere and sinister undertones, with plenty of wit and tension. Supporting cast members Naomi Ackie, David Tennant, Richard E. Grant, and Jonathan Pryce add even more depth to the ensemble. In a standout moment from the trailer, Mirren’s Elizabeth warns: “If any harm comes to my friends, I will personally be laying a dozen blood red roses on your coffin.”

With five books already published in Osman’s series and a growing fanbase worldwide, Netflix may well be eyeing this as a long-term franchise. For now, all signs point to The Thursday Murder Club delivering a crowd-pleasing blend of brains, charm, and bodies in the garden.
Director Chris Columbus, best known for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, helms the film, which is scripted by Katy Brand and Suzanne Heathcote. You can check out the trailer below.
