Jonah Hill steps back behind the camera with Outcome, (whilst not resisting sneaking in front of it also). With a project that leans into the uneasy space between public image and private mistakes. The film centers on Reef Hawk, played by Keanu Reeves, a once-dominant Hollywood figure attempting to rebuild his career after years out of sight. His return, however, is anything but smooth. A damaging video looms in the background, threatening to dismantle whatever remains of his reputation.
The premise is direct but loaded: a man who has benefited from fame must now answer for the past. Reef’s response is not denial, but action. He sets out to confront the people he has wronged, retracing old relationships and missteps while trying to track down whoever is holding the video over him. It’s a race against exposure, but also something more internal. Redemption, in this case, isn’t clean or guaranteed.

Hill directs and co-writes the film alongside Ezra Woods, while also appearing onscreen as Ira, Reef’s crisis lawyer. The role places him close to the chaos, acting as both guide and gatekeeper as the situation spirals. The supporting cast is notably broad, bringing together Cameron Diaz, Matt Bomer, Laverne Cox, Drew Barrymore, David Spade, Ivy Wolk, and Martin Scorsese. An ensemble that suggests multiple perspectives are orbiting a single unraveling figure.
Visually, Outcome appears to aim for a heightened tone. With cinematographer Benoît Debie behind the camera, the film uses bold colour and stylised California backdrops to mirror Reef’s fractured state. Sunsets glow unnaturally. Scenes feel slightly off-balance. The aesthetic reinforces the idea that this is not just a comeback story, it’s a psychological one.

The film’s themes feel deliberate. A character under scrutiny, grappling with how they are seen and what they’ve done, carries an obvious weight. Hill has not addressed those parallels directly, but the framing invites interpretation. As noted in the original coverage, it’s “notable that Hill’s latest work concerns an actor wrestling with their perception and possible transgressions.”
Outcome marks Hill’s first fictional directorial effort since 2018’s mid90s, and it arrives at a moment where stories about accountability in Hollywood feel especially pointed. Whether Reef Hawk’s journey ends in redemption or collapse remains unclear, but the setup promises tension either way. The film premieres on Apple TV on April 10. You can check out the trailer below.
