Opening today in limited theaters across North America, She Rides Shotgun offers a raw, relentless ride into the criminal underworld and the heart of a fractured father-daughter bond. Taron Egerton leads the gritty drama as Nate, a recently paroled ex-con whose new life on the outside comes with a violent price.
Based on Jordan Harper’s award-winning novel and directed by Nick Rowland, the film wastes no time in diving into its high-stakes premise. Nate walks out of prison only to find himself the target of a deadly gang. His only choice: grab his daughter Polly (played by Ana Sophia Heger) and run.

But this isn’t just a chase movie. At its core, She Rides Shotgun is about trust, trauma, and the fragile process of rebuilding a relationship under impossible circumstances. As danger escalates, so does the emotional complexity between Nate and Polly, two people learning how to survive together, even when everything else is falling apart.
“I cannot recall a happier or more soul-enriching experience than making She Rides Shotgun,” Egerton told Variety. “It is without doubt the most tender and felt relationship I have had with an actor onscreen.” That onscreen connection drives much of the film’s impact, anchoring its brutality with moments of quiet, painful honesty.

Rowland, leans into that balance of violence and vulnerability. The screenplay, co-written by Harper, Ben Collins, and Luke Piotrowski, brings the novel’s tension to life with minimal sentimentality and sharp edges. Supporting turns from Rob Yang and John Carroll Lynch add menace and grit, while a haunting score by Blanck Mass helps maintain the film’s raw tone.
She Rides Shotgun is produced by Brad Weston, Hiro Murai, Collin Creighton, Nate Matteson, and Egerton himself. The film is expected to roll out on video-on-demand platforms in the coming weeks, following its limited theatrical run. You can check out the trailer below. A UK release is still uncertain, we expect it will also follow on VOD in the coming weeks.
