‘The Lost Bus’ Trailer Sees Matthew McConaughey Battle Through Flames to Save Kids

Apple’s wildfire drama stars Matthew McConaughey!

Apple TV+ has unveiled the first full trailer for The Lost Bus, a survival drama set against the backdrop of California’s deadliest wildfire. Based on true events, the film captures a harrowing real-time escape as flames close in on a stranded group of children.

Matthew McConaughey leads as Kevin, a school bus driver forced into hero mode after a desperate radio call reports 23 children trapped at an elementary school. America Ferrera stars alongside him as Mary, the teacher whose class is caught in the fire’s path. The trailer wastes no time throwing viewers into the chaos, smoke-choked skies, blocked roads, and no clear way out.

Directed by Jason Bourne veteran Paul Greengrass, the film adapts journalist Lizzie Johnson’s nonfiction account Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire. The story unfolds like a ticking clock, as Kevin and Mary fight to outpace an unstoppable blaze, turning a yellow school bus into a last-ditch lifeboat.

The film’s official synopsis reads, “The Lost Bus is a white-knuckle ride through one of America’s deadliest wildfires as a wayward school bus driver (McConaughey) and a dedicated school teacher (Ferrera) battle to save 23 children from the terrifying inferno.”

Backing the intense action is a heavy-hitting production team. Greengrass co-wrote the script with Brad Inglesby (Mare of Easttown) and produces alongside Jason Blum and Jamie Lee Curtis. Yul Vazquez, Ashlie Atkinson, and Spencer Watson round out the cast.

The Lost Bus arrives in select theaters September 19 and will hit Apple TV+ on October 3. For McConaughey, it’s his first lead in a live-action film since 2019, he returned earlier this year in The Rivals of Amziah King. But here, the stakes aren’t just personal, they’re burning through everything. You can watch the trailer below.
