Paramount Movies has dropped the first trailer for Adulthood, a sharp-edged crime comedy directed by Alex Winter. The film sees Kaya Scodelario and Josh Gad as estranged siblings who find themselves unexpectedly tangled in a mess of lies, murder, and very poor decisions.
Their troubles begin when they discover a decomposed corpse hidden beneath their childhood home. What was supposed to be a simple family visit turns into a fast-moving descent into criminal mayhem. It’s the kind of discovery that doesn’t just ruin your weekend, it changes your entire life.

The film follows Megan (Scodelario) and Noah (Gad), two adults barely scraping by in an America that seems to have forgotten how to take care of its own. Their attempt to make sense of the body in the basement quickly leads them into a labyrinth of old secrets, new crimes, and growing paranoia. The more they try to clean things up, the deeper they sink.
Penned by novelist Michael M.B. Galvin, the film oozes noir appeal while weaving in elements of dark humour and intensity. As the siblings attempt to neutralise the situation, they’re drawn deeper into their hometown’s buried secrets and now, they’re in far more than they bargained for. Republic Pictures has acquired U.S. and Canadian distribution rights, describing the story as a “darkly comic, modern-noir” that’s both twisted and strangely familiar.

Adulthood will be making its world premiere in 2025 at the Toronto International Film Festival and is slated for a U.S. theatrical release on September 19, followed by digital availability on September 23. There is no official UK release as of yet.
With an offbeat energy and a dash of suburban rot, Adulthood might just be the feel-bad crime comedy of the year. You can watch the trailer below.
