Peacock’s Twisted Metal is back, and this time, it’s stepping even closer to its video game roots. After a surprisingly successful first season that blended fast cars, dark humor, and post-apocalyptic violence, the series is doubling down with a second installment set to debut July 31, 2025. With a tournament now at the center of the story, fans of the original PlayStation franchise may finally get the chaotic showdown they’ve been waiting for.
Anthony Mackie returns as John Doe, a sarcastic loner with a mysterious past, while Stephanie Beatriz reprises her role as Quiet, a sharp-edged fighter with unfinished business. The series left off with both characters heading in separate, dangerous directions. John was recruited into a deadly demolition derby orchestrated by a cryptic figure named Calypso, while Quiet was captured by a group of masked women led by none other than John’s sister, Dollface.

Michael Jonathan Smith continues as showrunner, with creators Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick remaining attached. Now, the focus shifts to the Twisted Metal tournament, a brutal contest where the prize is anything the heart desires. Anthony Carrigan, fresh off a role in James Gunn’s Superman, takes on Calypso, the tournament’s enigmatic overseer. “Following the revelations in the season one finale, John and Quiet find themselves entering the deadly Twisted Metal tournament,” Peacock summarizes, “a sinister demolition derby hosted by a mysterious man known as Calypso.”
For those unfamiliar, Calypso’s wishes tend to come with a catch. He grants anything, but always with a twisted edge. As John and Quiet navigate this ruthless contest, their goal isn’t just survival. According to the trailer, they aim to tear down the walls dividing the fractured remnants of society. But peace, in Twisted Metal, is always earned through fire.

Visually, the new season looks unhinged in the best way. From the live-action debut of Axel, literally fused to a pair of massive wheels, to Beatriz’s knife-wielding acrobatics, the series embraces the absurd with confidence. Joe Seanoa returns as Sweet Tooth, once again voiced by Will Arnett, delivering flaming chaos from behind the wheel of an ice cream truck.
Season 2 launches with a three-episode drop, followed by weekly releases every Thursday through August 28. For fans of loud, over-the-top action with a hint of commentary under the hood, Twisted Metal looks ready to rip through expectations once again.
