Something is wrong in the town of Maybrook—and the new trailer for Weapons is ready to make your skin crawl. The upcoming horror film, directed by Barbarian’s Zach Cregger, finally offers a proper look at its chilling mystery, and it’s clear we’re not in familiar territory.
At the center of the story is Justine Gandy, played by Julia Garner, a teacher whose entire class of young students vanishes overnight. The trailer kicks off with a voiceover from a child describing the eerie event: “At 2:17 a.m., every student woke up, walked out the front door, and disappeared.” That timestamp becomes an ominous motif throughout the teaser, signaling something deeply unnatural.

Josh Brolin co-stars as a furious father demanding answers. “Why just her class?” he shouts at a packed town hall, his grief spilling into rage. The trailer doesn’t give away much more but the glimpses are harrowing. Children appearing in strange formations, silent stares in dark rooms, and blood-spattered visuals hint at a descent into true horror.
Weapons will unfold from six different perspectives, including a teacher, a parent, a police officer, and even a student. Cregger, who also wrote and produced the film, has reportedly crafted an interconnected narrative structure inspired by films like Magnolia.

The cast is packed with talent. In addition to Garner and Brolin, Weapons features Alden Ehrenreich, Benedict Wong, Austin Abrams, Amy Madigan, and June Diane Raphael. With a script that blends emotional trauma and psychological terror, it marks a promising sophomore effort for Cregger following the surprise success of Barbarian in 2022.
The trailer confirms the film’s release date—August 8, 2025—and arrives after the project’s early test screenings scored high enough to bump its original 2026 release up by several months. With mounting buzz and a genuinely disturbing setup, Weapons may well end up being one of next summer’s most talked-about genre films.
