Box Office: Marvel’s ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Takes Control of the Box Office

Fantastic Four leads a mixed bag of hits at the U.S. Box Office.

The summer box office scoreboard has reshuffled once again, with Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps emerging as the new leader. The superhero reboot soared to a $118 million domestic haul and climbed to $218 million globally, marking a significant win for Disney after a turbulent run of underperforming titles earlier this year.

The film’s rollout across 52 markets saw strong turnouts in Mexico ($12 million) and the United Kingdom ($10.8 million), while China delivered a lackluster $4.5 million. That latter figure isn’t exactly shocking, superhero fatigue in China isn’t just a rumor; it’s a reality. Still, the momentum is solid.

Trailing just behind in the global tally is Warner Bros.’ Superman, which has now crossed the $500 million threshold with $502 million worldwide. Domestically, it’s earned $24.86 million, but the international appeal hasn’t quite measured up. After opening in 78 territories with a promising $220 million global start, its third weekend brought a steep 57% drop.

Meanwhile, Jurassic World Rebirth continues to stomp forward. Though it only added $13 million domestically over the weekend, its global total now stands at a towering $718 million. With stars like Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali, the latest chapter in the dino-franchise is more of a slow-burn hit, gradually climbing despite the shadow of its billion-dollar predecessors.

Brad Pitt’s racing drama F1 also crossed a major milestone, hitting $509 million globally, with $6.2 million of that coming from U.S. theaters this week. Now in its fifth week, the $250 million production is performing best in international markets, proving that fast cars and slick cinematography remain a winning formula overseas.

Finally, proving the power of persistence, the latest Smurfs film rounded out the top five with $5.4 million domestically and $68 million globally. It’s not a runaway success, but in a competitive summer, it’s hanging on by its blue fingertips.
