Jake Gyllenhaal Is Back for ‘Road House 2’ and This Time Guy Ritchie Takes Charge

Guy Ritchie to direct and Jake Gyllenhaal returns for more bar brawling mayhem!

Amazon MGM Studios has confirmed that Road House 2 is officially in the works and Guy Ritchie is stepping in to direct the follow-up to the streamer’s surprise smash hit. Jake Gyllenhaal is set to reprise his role as ex-UFC fighter Elwood Dalton, continuing the story of the Florida Keys’ roughest bouncer.

First reported by Deadline, this marks Ritchie’s third time working with Gyllenhaal. The pair previously collaborated on 2023’s The Covenant, a war thriller that took a more grounded tone than Ritchie’s usual fare, and the pair are also teaming up for upcoming In the Grey. But fans can expect something a little different this time, Ritchie is known for his hyper-stylized action, and Road House 2 seems poised to lean into the chaos.

The script comes from Will Beall (Bad Boys: Ride or Die, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F), who’s no stranger to amped-up action. Plot specifics are being kept under wraps, but given the wild brawls and barroom mayhem of the first installment, expectations are high for another round of glass-smashing madness.

Gyllenhaal, who also produces via his Nine Stories Productions banner, will be joined by returning producers Charles Roven and Alex Gartner of Atlas Entertainment. Josh McLaughlin is also back as a producer, with Ivan Atkinson executive producing.

The original Road House remake, directed by Doug Liman, was a massive win for Prime Video, racking up nearly 80 million viewers in just eight weeks. But Liman’s fallout with Amazon over the film’s streaming-only release meant he was never likely to return. As IndieWire reported, Liman said he wasn’t properly compensated for what was initially conceived as a theatrical release. Amazon, however, maintained the film was always bound for streaming.

Ritchie, for his part, is in full sprint mode. On top of Road House 2, he has multiple projects lined up from Apple’s Fountain of Youth (starring John Krasinski and Natalie Portman) to Netflix’s second season of The Gentlemen. Given his track record, a rowdy sequel with fists flying and beer bottles breaking might be exactly the kind of chaos he’s built for.
