Dexter Returns From the Dead As Showtime Set ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Premiere Date

The code lives on Dexter Morgan is not done yet!

Michael C. Hall returns as TV’s most infamous blood-splatter expert in Dexter: Resurrection, the newest chapter in Showtime’s long-running saga of the complicated killer with a conscience. After leaving audiences stunned with what looked like a permanent end in Dexter: New Blood, the new series picks up shortly after that shocking moment—with Dexter very much alive.

The series will debut on Friday, July 11 for Paramount+ in both the US and the UK, with a two-episode premiere. It then makes its US cable debut on Sunday, July 13, and will continue weekly. Clyde Phillips, the franchise’s longtime creative force, is back as showrunner and executive producer, alongside Hall himself. Marcos Siega will direct six episodes, with Monica Raymund behind the camera for four.

The official logline reads: “Weeks after Dexter Morgan (Hall) takes a bullet to the chest from his own son, he awakens from a coma to find Harrison (Jack Alcott) gone without a trace. Realizing the weight of what he put his son through, Dexter sets out for New York City, determined to find him and make things right. But closure won’t come easy. When Miami Metro’s Angel Batista (David Zayas) arrives with questions, Dexter realizes his past is catching up to him fast. As father and son navigate their own darkness in the city that never sleeps, they soon find themselves deeper than they ever imagined and that the only way out is together.”

Alongside Hall, Alcott, Zayas, and James Remar. The series has added star power with the likes of Uma Thurman, Peter Dinklage, Ntare Guma and many more. Guest stars will include Neil Patrick Harris, Krysten Ritter, Eric Stonestreet, and David Dastmalchian.

This next chapter picks up where Dexter: New Blood left off but also ties in elements from Dexter: Original Sin, the prequel series that wrapped earlier this year. Original Sin pulled back the curtain on Dexter’s earliest years, set in 1991 Miami, as he begins his transformation from bright student to cold-blooded killer. Guided by his adoptive father Harry (played by Christian Slater), the younger Dexter (Patrick Gibson) learns to control his homicidal urges by following the infamous Code—a system designed to direct his violence toward those who “deserve it.” As he navigates a forensics internship at Miami Metro.

Showrunner Clyde Phillips helmed both Original Sin and Resurrection, solidifying an increasingly connected Dexter universe that bridges past, present, and what could be the character’s most emotionally fraught future. After years of reinventions, fake deaths, and moral gymnastics, the idea of Dexter navigating guilt in the chaos of New York adds a new twist. Whether he finds redemption or more ruin, one thing’s for sure—he’s not done yet.

Dexter: Resurrection premieres Friday, July 11 on Paramount+ in both the US and UK. In the meantime, check out the short teaser below.
