Brad Pitt Talks for the First Time About Tarantino’s Spin-Off ‘The Adventures of Cliff Booth’

No Tarantino, No Problem? Brad Pitt & David Fincher team up for Cliff Booth Spin-off!

Brad Pitt is officially stepping back into Cliff Booth’s well-worn moccasins but this time, Quentin Tarantino won’t be behind the camera. The long-rumored project following the events of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is now confirmed, with David Fincher taking over directing duties.

Speaking at the London premiere of his upcoming film F1, Pitt told Deadline, “This is something Quentin Tarantino wrote. It’s an episode, not really a sequel, of the character from Once Upon a Time. He didn’t want to direct it at this point, so our friend David Fincher stepped in.” Production is set to kick off in July.

Though Netflix hasn’t released an official statement, the California Film Commission revealed the project on a recent list of productions receiving state tax credits. The untitled film scored $20 million in credits, with insiders confirming it’s The Adventures of Cliff Booth. The production plans to shoot over 110 days in California, employing 128 cast members, 428 crew, and nearly 4,000 background performers.

Reportedly, the film will be among the most expensive streaming originals to date, with whispers of a budget circling the $200 million mark. Tarantino, who penned the script, is set to earn $20 million his biggest payday since scripting From Dusk Till Dawn nearly three decades ago. It’s a rare move for the director, who has publicly championed physical media and voiced little love for streaming.

The project remains tightly under wraps, with few plot details available. Alongside Pitt, the cast includes Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Elizabeth Debicki, and Scott Caan. Whether the story continues directly from Hollywood or spins off in a new direction isn’t clear, though sources suggest it draws on elements from Tarantino’s shelved script, The Movie Critic.

Pitt’s portrayal of Booth earned him an Oscar in 2020 and revitalized his career. Now, with Fincher at the helm and Netflix footing the bill, The Adventures of Cliff Booth is shaping up to be an exciting return, with plenty of mystery still hanging in the air.
