Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone are back together for another strange ride. This time, it’s Bugonia, a mind-bending sci-fi satire where corporate power, alien conspiracies, and paranoia collide in typically off-kilter fashion.
The film centers on two eccentric young men who kidnap a successful CEO, convinced she’s an extraterrestrial plotting the planet’s downfall. Emma Stone plays the executive in question, with Jesse Plemons joining the madness as one of her unhinged abductors. It’s a remake of the 2003 South Korean cult hit Save the Green Planet!, and while the premise might sound absurd, Lanthimos seems intent on treating it with both gravity and chaos.

The film’s creative team is loaded with familiar names. Will Tracy (The Menu) pens the screenplay, while Lanthimos reunites with longtime editor Yorgos Mavropsaridis and cinematographer Robbie Ryan. Behind the music is Jerskin Fendrix, who scored Poor Things, and sound designer Johnnie Burn adds to the film’s score.
Joining Stone and Plemons in the ensemble are Stavros Halkias, Aidan Delbis, and Alicia Silverstone. The production also sees heavyweight backing from Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen. Speaking about their involvement, Aster and Knudsen said in a statement: “Swinging with youthful abandon between white-knuckle suspense, absurd slapstick, grim horror and a deeply felt (and earned) sense of tragedy, Save The Green Planet! is one of the most remarkable films to come out of South Korea – among this recent wave or any wave, for that matter.”

Whether Emma Stone’s character is truly from another world or simply a victim of delusion remains to be seen but with Lanthimos at the helm, expect the unexpected, that’s for sure.
Bugonia premieres in a special limited theatrical run on October 24, 2025, in select cities, before going wide on October 31.
