Alien: Romulus has burst onto the box office scene, raking in an impressive $108 million during its debut weekend. With such a strong opening, fans are already buzzing about the possibility of a sequel.
Director Fede Álvarez has previously hinted at his readiness for a follow-up, mentioning that he already has ideas in mind and could pitch a story as early as tomorrow if needed. Given the film’s success and the positive fan reaction to the Alien franchise being back on track, a follow-up seems likely.
When asked by The Hollywood Reporter about a possible Romulus sequel, Álvarez shared that considering the continuation of the story comes naturally to him.
For me, it’s always been about story. So, once we finished, we started thinking, “What do you think happens when or if they get to Yvaga? Is it going to be great? Or is it a terrible place?” We tend to believe it’s probably a terrible place that they think is great and fantasize about, so we naturally started thinking about where it goes and what’s going to happen. And then, a few minutes in, we go, “Oh, that sounds like a sequel.”
