The news of the possible return of both Nicolas Cage and John Travolta for Face/Off 2 has ignited the film world. After Cage confirmed his participation in the sequel, rumors are now circulating that his co-star, John Travolta, is also on board for the long-awaited follow-up. Adam Wingard, known for Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire, will help the film as director.
The sequel is expected to directly follow the story of the original film, prompting questions about how Cage’s character will return, considering his apparent fate in the first installment. However, Cage suggested in a previous interview that the storyline might shift focus to the next generation.
The original Face/Off, directed by John Woo and written by Mike Werb and Michael Colleary, achieved cult status due to the powerful performances of Cage and Travolta, as well as its stylized action scenes. Grossing $245 million worldwide, it ranked as the eleventh highest-grossing film of 1997. Additionally, the film received an Academy Award nomination for Sound Editing (Mark Stoeckinger and Per Hallberg) at the 70th Academy Awards.
In addition to Cage and Travolta, the film features Joan Allen, Gina Gershon, and Alessandro Nivola, while Dominique Swain, Nick Cassavetes, Harve Presnell, Colm Feore, CCH Pounder, and Thomas Jane round out the supporting cast.
While the precise details of Face/Off 2 remain undisclosed, the prospect of John Travolta’s potential return is promising. If the rumors hold true, an unforgettable reunion awaits. Additionally, the original 1997 film is currently available on Disney+ in the UK, you can watch the trailer below.
