First Teaser for ‘Wolf Man’ Leigh Whannell’s Universal Monster Movie

‘Wolf Man’ teases Christopher Abbott’s grisly transformation!

From the combined forces of Universal and Blumhouse, Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man is set to hit theaters on January 17, 2025. You can catch the first official teaser below. Whannell, known for his thrilling reinterpretation of The Invisible Man, is back with another revitalization of a Universal Monsters icon in Wolf Man. The teaser gives a glimpse of the intensity we’ve come to expect from Whannell, with suspense building in every scene.

This time, Whannell offers a modern take, starring Christopher Abbott as Blake, a man who somehow succumbs to the ancient curse of becoming a werewolf. Julia Garner, from Ozark, plays his wife, Charlotte. The teaser sees Blake inherit his childhood home in rural Oregon following his father’s mysterious disappearance. In an effort to reconcile with his estranged wife, Charlotte, Blake proposes a trip to the secluded farmhouse, bringing along their young daughter, Ginger, played by Matilda Firth. However, their peaceful escape quickly turns sinister when an unseen predator attacks them in the dead of night.

The teaser shows the family arriving at their secluded farmhouse in the dead of night. In one chilling moment, Charlotte asks, “What’s that sound, Blake?” to which he replies, “It looked like some kind of animal. But I swear to God, it was standing on two feet.” What follows is a series of tense scenes, depicting Blake’s unsettling transformation. Given the movie’s title, it’s not exactly a mystery what’s happening to him.

The official synopsis reads, “Christopher Abbott stars as Blake, a San Francisco husband and father, who inherits his remote childhood home in rural Oregon after his own father vanishes and is presumed dead. With his marriage to his high-powered wife, Charlotte (Garner), fraying, Blake persuades Charlotte to take a break from the city and visit the property with their young daughter, Ginger (Firth). But as the family approaches the farmhouse in the dead of night, they’re attacked by an unseen animal and, in a desperate escape, barricade themselves inside the home as the creature prowls the perimeter. As the night stretches on, however, Blake begins to behave strangely, transforming into something unrecognizable, and Charlotte will be forced to decide whether the terror within their house is more lethal than the danger without.”

Blumhouse recently dropped the logo for the movie, part of the Universal Monsters lineup, and with Halloween Horror Nights underway in Orlando, fans have gotten their first taste of the creature. However, the initial reactions weren’t exactly glowing, with many fans voicing concerns like, “I hope it doesn’t look like that in the actual film.”

While the teaser doesn’t give a full reveal of the Wolf Man, it might help calm some of those worries. But if you were among those who found the Halloween Horror Nights version unsettling, there’s not much here to change your mind just yet.

The screenplay is co-written by Leigh Whannell and Corbett Tuck with Jason Blum producing. Whether Wolf Man will match the success of Whannell’s The Invisible Man remains to be seen when the film hits cinemas on January 17, 2025.
