Amazon Studios have released the first trailer for its upcoming sci-fi thriller Foe, starring Oscar-nominated duo Paul Mescal and Saoirse Ronan.
Mescal and Ronan star as Junior and Henrietta, a husband and wife living in a future about 40 years on from now on a secluded farm. With Earth’s climate deteriorating, the couple are propositioned by a stranger named Terrance (Aaron Pierre), he declares that Junior go to space for several years to assist in the piloting of a program that will help transition humanity away from Earth.

In a twist Terrance reveals that Henrietta will not be left alone and that a robot version of Junior will stay and watch over her in his absence.
Foe is based on the novel of the same name, written by Iain Reid and is the latest film from director Garth Davies.

The films official synopsis reads, A haunting exploration of marriage and identity set in an uncertain world. Hen and Junior farm a secluded piece of land that has been in Junior’s family for generations, but their quiet life is thrown into turmoil when an uninvited stranger shows up at their door with a startling proposal. Based on best-selling author Iain Reid’s novel, directed by Garth Davis and co-written by Davis and Reid, Foe’s mesmerizing imagery and persistent questions about the nature of humanity (and artificial humanity) bring the not-too-distant future to luminous life.
