FX’s ‘Alien: Earth’ to Feature “Chilling” Xenomorph Says Creator Noah Hawley

‘Alien: Earth’ creator hints at new Xenomorph breed in upcoming FX series!

Noah Hawley, creator of Alien: Earth, has confirmed that his upcoming prequel series will feature at least one of the franchise’s iconic Xenomorphs. “There’s something about seeing a Xenomorph in the wilds of Earth with your own eyes,” Hawley teases about the FX series, which is based on Ridley Scott’s seminal film.

Alien: Earth is set to be the first new installment in the Alien franchise following Alien: Romulus. The show, created by Hawley for FX on Hulu, will bring the beloved universe to television for the first time. Set 30 years before Ridley Scott’s 1979 classic, Alien, the series takes place on a future Earth at the end of the 21st century. The teaser recently released by FX hints at the creature’s menacing role, as an enraged Xenomorph with dark, sharp teeth and drooling lips, zero’s in on Earth.

In a recent discussion with Deadline, Hawley revealed that despite concerns about the franchise’s monstrous alien being absent due to the series’ early timeline, the creature will indeed make an appearance. However, he remains tight-lipped about how it will contribute to the series’ terror.

That is truly chilling to think of it moving here among us, and so I can’t tell you under what circumstances you’ll see that, but you’ll see it — and you’re going to lock your door that night. What was really fun for me was to really engage with the creature, bring some of my own thoughts to the design while not touching the silhouette, because that’s sacrosanct. But some of the elements as we know, whatever the host is, informs what the final creature is. I just wanted to play around a little bit to make it as scary as it should be.

Alien: Earth, premiering on Hulu in 2025, reveals a new synopsis: “When a mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth, a young woman (Sydney Chandler) and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet’s greatest threat.”

Despite some fan concerns about the series’ timeline—set a few decades before the original Alien and even earlier than Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, which explores the origins of the Xenomorphs—Hawley has chosen to focus on the retro-futuristic aspects of the earlier films. “The idea that, on some level, it was a bioweapon created half an hour ago, that’s just inherently less useful to me,” Hawley noted earlier this year.

Alien: Earth stars Sydney Chandler and Timothy Olyphant, and will be available to viewers in 2025.
