Glen Powell Says Tom Cruise Was “Stoked” After Seeing ‘The Running Man’ Teaser

Tom Cruise’s reaction to the running man left a lasting impression on Glen Powell.

Glen Powell has had his fair share of big-screen moments lately, but watching the teaser for The Running Man with none other than Tom Cruise? That’s now at the top of his memory bank. The Top Gun: Maverick actor recently shared how Cruise reacted after seeing a sneak peek of his upcoming action film—and the adrenaline junkie in Cruise was all in.

“Watching that teaser with Tom Cruise is a memory I will never forget,” Powell told SFX for GamesRadar. “He was so stoked after watching it. What’s been amazing about my relationship with Tom is the fact he’s a guy that doesn’t hide his excitement. He loves the theatrical experience and working hard and putting your body on the line to entertain audiences.”

Cruise, known for his own jaw-dropping stunt work in films like Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, seemed thrilled by the teaser. Powell’s film might not match Cruise’s high-altitude feats, but it taps into the same action-first spirit that keeps audiences coming back for more.

The Running Man, directed by Edgar Wright and co-written with Michael Bacall, reimagines Stephen King’s dystopian tale where survival isn’t just the goal—it’s the game. Powell plays Ben Richards, a desperate father entering a televised deathmatch to win money for his daughter’s medical care. Survive 30 days, and the prize is a cool $1 billion. The catch? No one’s ever made it that far.

Powell isn’t the only name on the marquee. The cast features Josh Brolin as the morally bankrupt show producer, and Colman Domingo as the charismatic host, a role inspired, fittingly, by Jerry Springer who the Emmy-winning actor credited for knowing how to work a crowd and draw big reactions.

Also appearing in the film are Michael Cera, Katy O’Brian and William H. Macy. With that kind of ensemble, Wright’s version of The Running Man is shaping up to be as flashy as it is ferocious.

The Running Man hits theaters on November 7. As for Cruise, he’ll be saying goodbye to Ethan Hunt when Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning lands on May 23.
