‘I Saw the TV Glow’ Trailer New Surreal Horror From A24

The lines of reality are blurred in this trippy horror.

A24 has unveiled the first trailer for the upcoming movie I Saw the TV Glow a mind-bending horror story from writer/director Jane Schoenbrun. The film received rave reviews following its Sundance premiere and is currently sitting pretty with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 91%.

The studio has had great success with its horror projects like Hereditary and more recently Talk to Me, and they’re on a real roll of success, selecting some excellent films. I Saw the TV Glow looks like an intriguing choice as well.

The trailer shows us two young people Owen (Justice Smith) and Maddy (Brigette Lundy-Paine) who rediscover a TV show, called The Pink Opaque about two girls who share a psychic connection and have to defeat monsters in a supernatural world.

Maddy tells Owen, “Sometimes the pink opaque feels more real than real life.” And when Owen’s perception of reality begins to distort, he fights against what he’s witnessing, reassuring Maddy that it’s just “a TV show.” However, he’s forced to confront the harsh reality when Maddy disappears and the series abruptly gets canceled.

The official synopsis for the film reads as follows: “Teenager Owen is just trying to make it through life in the suburbs when his classmate introduces him to a mysterious late-night TV show — a vision of a supernatural world beneath their own. In the pale glow of the television, Owen’s view of reality begins to crack.”

Alongside Smith and Lundy-Paine the film also stars Danielle Deadwyler as Brenda, Owens mother and Fred Durst (yes that Fred Durst if you’re over 35) as his controlling father Frank.
