The apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree, as they say, and in true M. Night Shyamalan spirit, his daughter Ishana Night Shyamalan has made her feature film debut with ‘The Watchers.’ The trailer holds a similarly eerie undertone as her father’s last outing, ‘Knock at the Cabin.’
The film follows Mina (Dakota Fanning), a 28-year-old artist, who gets stranded in an expansive, untouched forest in western Ireland. When Mina finds shelter, she unknowingly becomes trapped alongside three strangers who are watched and stalked by mysterious creatures each night. “You can’t see them, but they see everything.” the trailer eerily informs us.

Based on the gothic horror novel by A.H. Shine the creepy trailer shows us Mina as she gazes at a wall constructed entirely of glass. She’s informed that it’s actually a one-way window; every night, the group is watched by a sinister audience, and Mina is just the latest addition to the cast. “They’ll be very interested in someone new,” she’s told. Mina hears applause from the other side of the window, but she can’t discern who, exactly, is using her for their entertainment.
Alongside Fanning the cast also includes Georgina Campbell, Oliver Finnegan and Olwen Fouéré. The film is being produced by M. Night Shyamalan.

‘The Watchers’ may signify Ishana Night Shyamalan’s directorial debut, but the young filmmaker is no novice. She has previously directed episodes of the horror series ‘Servant’ and worked as a second unit director on her father’s film ‘Old’. True to the family style, her full feature debut looks just as terrifyingly eerie as her father’s body of work.
‘The Watchers‘ will be released in cinemas worldwide June 7, 2024.
