Academy Award winner J.K. Simmons looks at his psychotic best as a serial killer in the upcoming film You Can’t Run Forever. Simmons has played a multitude of unhinged characters, most notably Fletcher in Whiplash.
The actor takes it a step further this time, as the trailer depicts his character Wade ruthlessly taking lives. Miranda (played by Isabelle Anaya), a young woman, finds herself the target of Wade as he pursues her through the woods.

The official synopsis for the film reads: Miranda, a young woman already suffering from acute anxiety due to a past tragedy, faces a new terror when a serial killer chooses her as his new target. In a harrowing hunt through the woods, Miranda finds strength she never knew she had as she tries to elude her murderous tracker. Academy Award winner J.K. Simmons stars in a spine-chilling thriller about the strength of family and the astonishing power of the human spirit.
Originally titled ‘The Woods’ and first announced in 2021, Simmons discusses with Deadline why he has now decided to play a truly bad guy, saying. “I didn’t want to play any truly scary bad guys when our kids were young, partly because of how it might affect them if they saw the film and also because I didn’t want to bring that energy home with me after an intense day on the set.”

Alongside Simmons and Anaya the cast also includes Fernanda Urrejola, Allen Leech, Graham Patrick Martin and Olivia Simmons, J.K. Simmons’ daughter.
‘You Can’t Run Forever’ is directed by Simmons wife Michelle Schumacher and will be released in select cinemas and on digital May 17 in the US. In the UK there looks to be a physical DVD release date of May 27.
