The world of The Office is officially expanding, and one of its most beloved alums isn’t ruling out a return. John Krasinski, who played the laid-back and sharp-witted Jim Halpert, confirmed he’s more than willing to re-enter the mockumentary format that made him a household name.
Speaking to Extra, Krasinski said, “Done! If they ask me, I’m in.” Asked whether he’d be up for a cameo in The Paper—the upcoming spin-off set in the same universe—Krasinski didn’t hesitate.

Set in Toledo, Ohio, The Paper pivots from a struggling paper sales office to a struggling newspaper office. The new series, co-created by The Office U.S. developer Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, follows a team of volunteer reporters at the fictional Toledo Truth-Teller. Despite the change in scenery, the camera crew from The Office is back, documenting the chaos.
Krasinski expressed enthusiasm about the project’s creative direction and its lead actor, Domhnall Gleeson, who also stars opposite him in his new film Fountain of Youth. “I’m excited to see what they do with it. It’s such an amazing idea, and listen if Greg [Daniels] is behind it, we’re all in. And you can’t get a better actor than [Domhnall Gleeson] to take on the mantle. He’s so, so great. He’s going to be so perfect for it, and we’ll probably start doing watch parties again just to watch them,” Krasinski told Extra.

Gleeson joins a cast that includes Sabrina Impacciatore, Melvin Gregg, Chelsea Frei, Ramona Young, and Eric Rahill. Oscar Nuñez, who played accountant Oscar Martinez in the original series, will reprise his role in the new newsroom setting.
Steve Carell, who played Michael Scott, has indicated he won’t be returning. However, during an appearance on The Tonight Show, he praised Gleeson and revealed, “He actually called me and asked, ‘Should I do this? Did you enjoy it?’ He’s great.”
Peacock plans to debut The Paper this September. The tone may shift from Scranton to the Midwest, but fans can expect the same awkward glances and deadpan delivery that made The Office iconic.
