Apple Original Films have released the final trailer for Martin Scorsese’s crime epic based on the horrors that were inflicted on the Osage tribe in Oklahoma known as the ‘Reign of Terror’.
The final trailer focuses on Leonardo DiCaprio’s character Ernest Burkhart. Set in the 1920s, the film unravels the FBI’s investigation into the Osage tribe murders that went into the dozens.
Eric Roth and Martin Scorsese adapted the screenplay from book Killers of the Flower Moon: Adapted for Young Readers: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI.
In the 1920s, the Osage tribe became extremely wealthy after oil was discovered on their land. They earnt more than $30 million in annual revenue at the peak of the boom.
William K. Hale, Ernest Burkhart’s Uncle encouraged him to marry Osage member Mollie Kyle (Lily Gladstone). The murders went beyond the one family, with estimates that 24 Osage Indians died in violent or suspicious deaths throughout the early 1920s. At the time it being called a ‘reign of terror.’
The official synopsis reads: “At the turn of the 20th century, oil brought a fortune to the Osage Nation, who became some of the richest people in the world overnight. The wealth of these Native Americans immediately attracted white interlopers, who manipulated, extorted, and stole as much Osage money as they could before resorting to murder. Based on a true story ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ is an epic western crime saga, where real love crosses paths with unspeakable betrayal.”
Killers of the Flower Moon will be in theaters this Friday October 20, with previews available on the 19th.
