The killer doll with the titanium stare is back, only this time, she’s not the only one with a microchip and a grudge. M3GAN 2.0 is set to hit theaters on June 27, and from the early buzz, it’s shaping up to be far more than just a repeat performance.
Director Gerard Johnstone returns to the director’s chair, and he’s not interested in playing it safe. The sequel picks up the thread of the original but trades in its mostly horror roots for something faster, slicker, and more chaotic. Think less spooky shadows, more wild showdowns and yes, there’s still plenty of that signature M3GAN sass.

Facing off against our returning android is Amelia, a newly introduced villain played by Ahsoka star Ivanna Sakhno. “It’s the ultimate mean-girl showdown,” Sakhno told Empire, describing the movie as “a very campy, cunty movie.” Johnstone backed her up, laughing, “That’s probably the best appraisal of the tone I’ve heard so far.”
The tagline says it all: This Bitch vs. That Bitch. It’s not subtle—and that’s the point. The film leans hard into self-aware satire, pairing its AI-on-AI showdown with kinetic action and sharp-tongued dialogue. If M3GAN danced her way into meme culture the first time around, this sequel looks ready to bulldoze its way into it.

Producer James Wan confirms the tonal upgrade by drawing comparisons to a sci-fi classic. “We saw the path James Cameron took with Terminator 2,” Wan said. “If part of the jokey inspiration for the first M3GAN was that it was supposed to be our version of The Terminator, but with a killer doll instead of Arnold Schwarzenegger, then it felt right that the sequel would be Terminator 2: Judgment Day.”
With its blend of AI dread, glossy chaos, and unapologetic bite, M3GAN 2.0 seems built for the social media era. The first film made an icon out of a murderous companion bot. Now, the stakes are higher, and the claws are out.
