Amazon MGM Studios has officially secured worldwide distribution rights to The Beekeeper 2, a follow-up to the successful action-thriller starring Jason Statham. Insiders peg the deal north of $50 million, putting it firmly in blockbuster territory before cameras even roll.
As reported by Deadline Statham is set to return as the no-nonsense enforcer Adam Clay, with production scheduled to kick off this fall. This time, the film will be directed by Timo Tjahjanto, known for his work on The Night Comes for Us and the upcoming Nobody 2. Kurt Wimmer, who penned the original, is back on script duties. Miramax, which produced the first film, is also behind the sequel and handled the negotiations with Amazon.

The original Beekeeper saw Statham play a retired black-ops operative taking on a ruthless phishing scam ring. The film raked in over $160 million globally, punching far above expectations. With its brutal action and vigilante undertones, it became a surprise hit for Miramax and Amazon alike.
This sequel is expected to hit theaters in key international markets, possibly including a rollout through Amazon’s nascent global theatrical division. If that happens, The Beekeeper 2 could be one of the studio’s first major steps into worldwide cinema distribution.

Miramax’s shift away from direct international sales is taking shape, with third-party partners like Patrick Wachsberger’s 193 stepping in for upcoming titles. Meanwhile, The Beekeeper 2 is stacking its production team with Statham producing under his Punch Palace banner, joined by Chris Long and Wimmer.
Amazon recently saw box office success with A Working Man, another Statham-led project, which has grossed nearly $100 million. Clearly, the appetite for high-octane Statham vehicles hasn’t faded. Expect more bruised villains, more shredded suits—and no shortage of buzz..(sorry).
