Maya’s Nightmare Continues in ‘The Strangers – Chapter 2’ Trailer

Madelaine Petsch returns in ‘The Strangers: Chapter 2’

Lionsgate has pulled back the curtain on The Strangers: Chapter 2, releasing the first trailer for the next installment in its brutal slasher trilogy. With a September 26 theatrical release on the books, the sequel brings Madelaine Petsch back as Maya,…alive, barely, and still very much a target.

The trailer opens with a bloodied Maya waking up in a hospital. Her boyfriend lies lifeless beside her. No time to mourn because the masked trio is still out there, and they’re not done with her yet. This second chapter wastes no time diving back into the tension, setting up another round of high-stakes survival as Maya faces off against the Man in the Mask, Dollface, and Pin-Up Girl.

“The Strangers are back – more brutal and relentless than ever,” reads the official synopsis. “When they learn that one of their victims, Maya (Madelaine Petsch), is still alive, they return to finish what they’ve started. With nowhere to run and no one to trust, Maya must survive another horrific chapter of terror as The Strangers – driven by a senseless, unceasing purpose – pursue her, more than willing to kill anyone who stands in their way.”

Director Renny Harlin didn’t just shoot Chapter 2 he filmed the entire trilogy back-to-back, an approach that tested everyone involved. “On a Monday morning, I could be shooting the second chapter, and Monday afternoon I could be shooting the first chapter, and Tuesday morning I could be shooting the third chapter,” Harlin told Entertainment Weekly. “It was incredibly demanding… but it just kept all of our juices pumping all the time.”

Despite a lukewarm critical reception, The Strangers: Chapter 1 pulled in $48 million globally on a budget of $8.5 million. The financial success guaranteed the 2nd’s release, and now likely a trilogy capper regardless of performance.

The film also stars Gabriel Basso and Ema Horvath. Written by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland, and produced by a team including Courtney Solomon and Mark Canton, Chapter 2 continues to build on the world originally imagined by Bryan Bertino’s 2008 horror hit. Petsch’s Maya, once just another name on a kill list, now leads the franchise’s evolving mythology.

The nightmare isn’t over. It’s just getting bloodier. You can watch the trailer below.
