Apple TV+ has locked in a return date for Slow Horses, and fans of foul-mouthed spymaster Jackson Lamb won’t have long to wait. The critically acclaimed espionage drama is set to return for its fifth season on September 24.
Gary Oldman leads once again, reprising his role as the disheveled but sharp Lamb. Backed by his crew of disgraced MI5 agents, the series continues its gritty, irreverent look at British intelligence through the lens of those left on the margins. Season 5 adapts London Rules, the fifth book in Mick Herron’s Slough House series, and promises another twisted game of spycraft and subversion.

This time around, the story kicks off when the group’s in-house hacker, Roddy Ho, turns up with a glamorous new girlfriend, an oddity in itself. But when strange incidents begin erupting across the city, suspicions start mounting. As the official synopsis teases, “it falls to the Slow Horses to work out how everything is connected. After all, Lamb knows that in the world of espionage, the London Rules – cover your back – always apply.”
Oldman is joined by returning cast members Jack Lowden, Kristin Scott Thomas, Saskia Reeves, Rosalind Eleazar, Christopher Chung, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Ruth Bradley, James Callis, Tom Brooke, and Jonathan Pryce. This season also features Ted Lasso’s Nick Mohammed in a guest role, adding fresh energy to the already strong ensemble.

Since its debut in 2022, Slow Horses has grown from cult favorite to cornerstone title for Apple’s streaming platform. Season 4 earned a rare 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, further solidifying the show’s reputation for quality storytelling and razor-sharp performances. It blends cynicism, wit, and real-world tension into a formula that keeps viewers coming back.
Looking ahead, the future of Slow Horses looks secure. Oldman confirmed earlier this year that work has already begun on season 6. In a crowded streaming landscape, this messy band of misfits isn’t going anywhere.
