Following in the footsteps of The Exorcist, Halloween, and many others, The Omen is the next classic horror franchise to receive a prequel/sequel, with 20th Century Studios‘ upcoming film, The First Omen.
The original film from the 1970s directed by Richard Donner follows the story of a wealthy American diplomat, Robert Thorn, who adopts a newborn baby after his own child dies at birth. Unbeknownst to Thorn and his wife, the child, Damien, is actually the Antichrist.
The latest in the franchise stars Nell Tiger Free as a young American woman sent to Rome to begin a life of service to the church, she encounters a darkness that causes her to question her own faith and uncovers a terrifying conspiracy that hopes to bring about the birth of evil incarnate.
The new trailer features Father Brennan, portrayed by Ralph Ineson, warning all who will listen that the evil is imminent and unstoppable. Brennan, a returning character from the franchise, previously appeared in the series’ earlier films.
Alongside Tiger Free and Ineson The First Omen has an excellent cast that includes Bill Nighy as Lawrence and Charles Dance as Father Harris.
Written by Tim Smith, Arkasha Stevenson and Keith Thomas with Stevenson also directing The First Omen will be in cinemas worldwide April 5.
