Vin Diesel has once again fueled excitement for Riddick 4 by sharing a tantalizing behind-the-scenes image, hinting at an intense desert action sequence. The upcoming film marks the fourth installment in the Chronicles of Riddick franchise, with Diesel reprising his iconic role as the formidable Richard B. Riddick. Directed by David Twohy, who has been at the helm of all previous Riddick films.
It’s been over a decade since Diesel last donned the goggles of Riddick, with his last appearance being in 2013’s Riddick. Before that, he made his mark in 2000’s Pitch Black and 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick, solidifying the character as a cult favorite in the sci-fi genre. Officially titled Riddick: Furya, the production has been underway for the last few months, as Diesel gears up to bring his enigmatic anti-hero back to the big screen.
The film, which is being shot in various locations across Germany, Spain, and the U.K., promises to delve deeper into Riddick’s mysterious origins. The title itself, Riddick: Furya, suggests a focus on the character’s home planet, Furya, a world that has only been hinted at in previous films. This latest tease from Diesel gives fans a glimpse of what to expect—a desert-based setting that seems perfectly suited to the harsh, survivalist nature of the Riddick universe.
In his recent Instagram post, Diesel shared an image of himself in full costume, seated behind the wheel of a rugged, dune buggy-type vehicle. The vehicle, outfitted with a camera rig, suggests the filming of a high-speed action sequence across the Furyan desert. The backdrop, a vast expanse of sand and rock, reinforces the idea that this film will explore the harsh and unforgiving environment of Riddick’s home world, check it out below.
The official synopsis reads, “Riddick finally returns to his homeworld, a place he barely remembers and one he fears might be left in ruins. But there he finds other Furyans fighting for their existence against a new monster. And some of these Furyans are more like Riddick than he could have ever imagined.“
