‘Wolfs’ Starring George Clooney & Brad Pitt Earns 5-Minute Standing Ovation at Venice Premiere

Backed by the star power of its veteran A-list leads, Brad Pitt and George Clooney, the Jon Watts-directed film Wolfs had a triumphant world premiere at the Venice Film Festival late Sunday night. This marks the latest chapter in the 23-year onscreen collaboration between Clooney and Pitt, who brought their newest project to Venice for a much-anticipated debut.

Wolfs, a co-production between Apple and Sony, premiered out of competition at the festival and was met with an overwhelmingly positive response. The official screening took place at the iconic Sala Grande, where the film was greeted with a five-minute, 35-second standing ovation.

As the credits rolled, Clooney and Pitt, beamed with the reception and danced to Sade’s “Smooth Operator, the duo then took time to greet fans on their way out. Unfortunately, writer-director Jon Watts was unable to attend the premiere after contracting COVID-19. “He flew all the way here and he got COVID, and he’s now in bed,” Clooney told the press.

The excitement surrounding Wolfs doesn’t end in Venice. Just last month, it was confirmed that a sequel is already in the works at Apple. Additionally, the film will see a limited theatrical release later this month before its global launch a week later on Apple TV+.

The official synopsis for the film reads: “A professional fixer is hired to cover up a high-profile crime. But when a second fixer shows up and the two ‘lone wolves’ are forced to work together, they find their night spiraling out of control in ways that neither one of them expected.”

Wolfs will hit theaters on September 20 before arriving on Apple TV+ on September 27.
